Infocus M812 Review – Premium and Pricey

The Infocus M812 is a snapdragon 801 quad core powered smartphone that comes with dual SIM slots with 4G LTE support. The M812 is a premium handset that sports a 5.5 inch FHD screen and comes with premium price tag of ₹19,999.

I got the handset without the box packing for the review.

Design and Display
The Infocus M812 looks classy, it’s unibody made of aluminum. Build quality is very good. The silver side, shinny borders and the sliver matte finish on the back gives a very royal look to the handset. M812 weight with 2900 mAh battery is 181 grams and dimensions are 77.09 x slightly over 154 x 7.27 (mm).

Handset is comfortable to hold and because of the aluminum body it might get a bit slippery. This handset also comes with the circular style power button as seen on the Infocus M810 handset, but of a slightly smaller size.

The power button and volume rocker are placed on the left side, SIM trays are on the right side, audio jack on the top and micro USB port + dual speaker out vents on the bottom. I am not sure if there are dual speaker. However there are dual microphones for noise cancellation.

This smartphone comes with dual SIM slot tray. SIM 1 is a micro SIM slot and SIM 2 is a hybrid SIM slot – you can either use a micro SD card or a nano SIM. SIM 1 supports 4G/3G/2G and SIM 2 support 2G only.

M812 sports a 5.5 inch screen with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. Colour reproduction is very good and so is the viewing angle and touch response.

There is LED notification and native video calling is not supported. M812 comes packed with Accelerometer, light, magnetic, proximity and Gyro sensors.

Memory, Storage and OS
The Infocus M812 is loaded with 3GB RAM (1.7GB free on first boot) and 16GB storage (about 11GB free space). You can also use the micro SD card for additional (external) storage space, apps are getting installed on the internal storage but there is an option to move them to external storage.

OTG is supported.

This smartphone is running Inlife UI based on Android Lollipop 5.0.1, the UI got a new look – it’s simple and easily to use.

Performance
The M812 is using well known but outdated Snapdragon 801 2.4GHz quad core chipset (MSM8974PRO AC) with Adreno 330 GPU. Performance is smooth and lag free. Handset does not heat up much.

Benchmark

Benchmark App Score
Quadrant 29092
Antutu (32 bit) 1st – 43487 , 2nd – 41431
Nenamark 2 60.7fps
Multi touch 10 point

Gaming
We all know what the 801 is capable off. Asphalt 8 game played really well, very smooth and no lags. The game was playable in high visual quality mode and it got installed on the internal storage.

Camera
This smartphone comes with 13MP AF camera on the rear with dual LED flash. The front camera is 8MP resolution. Both front and rear cameras can shoot FHD videos. The hardware can play 4K videos with ease.

Camera quality is average, could have been better. It is not able to focus extreme close up objects. If you check the sample images at the end of this review you will find that some of the common images that I usually shoot from a standard distance turned out blurred.

Others
No other issues found. Sound is loud and clear, even the in-call sound is pretty good. 4G, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth worked without any issues.

Battery
The 2900 mAh non-removable battery seems insufficient. You can use the handset continuously for 3 to 4 hours (moderate to heavy usage). I am getting almost 27 hours of battery backup (daily mixed usage).

Performance Time Battery drop % Battery Max Temp
Benchmark 15 Minutes 8% 37 degree
Gaming (Asphalt 8) 18 Minutes 10% 40 degree
4K movie play with full brightness + Wi-Fi on 30 minutes 15% 37 degree
Wall Charge (on standby) 2 hours 39 minutes 5% to 100% (wall charge) 35 degree

Verdict
The Infocus M812 looks great and performance is pretty smooth and lag free. Camera quality is average and battery backup is also pretty low. M812 is priced at ₹19,999 – it is definitely pricey.

Infocus M812 will be available on Snapdeal.com – registration will begin on 24th September and product will be in stock from 1st October onwards.
