Honor 6X review – affordable dual camera phone

Honor has launched the 6X handset in India. This smartphone comes with dual rear cameras, supports 4G with VoLTE and loaded with 3340 mAh battery. Honor 6X is the cheapest dual camera variant from Honor brand.

Unboxing : Inside the box you will get the handset, user manual, warranty card, data cable, SIM tray ejector pin and travel charger 5V/2A. SAR Value : 1.385W/kg.

Design, Display and OS

The Honor 6X is using metal body, build quality and finishing is very good. Handset has got a curvy design, it is comfortable to hold and operate. There are dual SIM slots – you can use 2x nano SIM or nano SIM + micro SD card. 4G with VoLTE is supported.

There is LED notification and following sensors  – accelerometer, proximity, light, gyro, magnetic, hall and step counter.

Honor 6X sports a 5.5 inch screen using 2.5D curved glass supporting 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. Color reproduction, viewing angles and touch response are very good.

6X sails on Android Marshmallow 6.0.

Memory and Storage

The handset that I used for the review was packed with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage space. On first boot you will get around 52GB free space and on an average 2.3GB free RAM. OTG is supported.

Performance

The Honor 6X is powered by HiSilicon Kirin 655 octa core processor clocked at 2.1GHz coupled with Mali T830 GPU. Performance was smooth, maximum battery temperature I encountered was 41 degrees.

Benchmark

AnTuTu : 56931 / 9496  – 2nd time 57117  / 9350
Nenamark 2 : 58.7fps
Disk Speed : 163 MB/s read / 215 MB/s write
Multi Touch :10 point

Gaming

Gaming performance was smooth, I tried Modern Combat 5 and Asphalt 8 (high quality mode) both games worked great.

Camera

There is 12MP camera on the back plus a 2MP camera – dual cameras on the back. This handset can shoot DSLR type photos (bokeh). One camera captures details on colour and other in black and white. Use the wide aperture mode to capture awesome DSLR style photos, you can shoot first and then refocus, change background blurriness later on. When using Wide Aperture mode the camera captures images in 8MP resolution. Camera quality is excellent. This handset can record FHD videos but hardware is powerful, it can play 4K videos. Front camera is a 8MP shooter.

Camera Rating 4.3 out of 5

Others

Sound is loud and clear. In call sound is also very good. No issues with network. Reliance Jio worked. WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS worked pretty well. Finger print sensor is very fast and accurate. Just like the Honor 8 this handset also comes with step counter. This handset can keep track of your physical activities without the need of a wearable device.

You can use WiFi bridge to share Wi-Fi or also use the handset as a repeater.

Battery

There is a 3340 mAh non-removable battery. Battery life is good you can expect 5 to 7 hours of non-stop moderate to heavy usage. With mixed moderate usage the handset will last for one and a half days.

Honor 6X Battery Performance (time / battery % drop / estimated battery temperature)

  • Running Benchmark app – 8 minutes / 2% / 32 degree
  • Asphalt 8 game play – 22 minutes / 7% / 41 degree
  • 4K video playback with full brightness (WiFi /4G on) – 33 minutes / 7% / 35 degrees

It took me 2 hours 51 minutes to charge the handset from 9% to 100% using wall charger.

Verdict

The Honor 6X is a very good handset with excellent dual camera wide aperture capabilities that help you shoot like with a DSLR, you get awesome Bokeh effects. Everything is good about this handset, performance, good for gaming, good battery life.

A very good buy. Honor 6X competes with Coolpad Cool 1, I will be coming up with comparison of the same.

Honor 6x price is too good,  starts from 12,999 for 3GB/32GB and Rs.  15,999 for 4GB/64GB. Will be available on Amazon. Now for Rs. 10,999.
