Here is the Gionee A1 Review, this handset is using MediaTek octa core processor and packed with 4010 mAh battery. This smartphone sails on Android Nougat and price in India is Rs. 19,999 (now a little cheaper).

Gionee A1 Unboxing

Inside the box : Handset, gift card, SIM tray ejector pin, screen guard, user manual, warranty card, silicon case, Data Cable, good quality earphone and travel charger 9V/2A. SAR Value : 1.180 W/Kg @ 1 g head and 0.346 W/kg @ 1g body.

Gionee A1 Design, Display and OS

A1 is using a metal body, curvy design, comfortable to hold and does look quite premium. This is a dual SIM handset using hybrid slot – you can use Micro SIM + Nano / Micro SD card. There are good number of sensors including Gyro, Magnetic and Step. There is no LED notification.

This handset sails on Amigo UI based on Android Nougat 7.0. Screen is 5.5 inches supporting 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. Screen quality is pretty good and so is the touch response, viewing angles and color reproduction.

Memory and Storage

There is 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM. On first boot you will get around 2GB free RAM and around 52GB free storage. OTG is supported on Gionee A1 handset.

Gionee A1 Performance and Benchmark

This handset is using MediaTek MT6755 octa core processor clocked at 2GHz with Mali T860 GPU. The 1080p display though works great with MT6755 but in general when using heavy apps like playing games the performance is not really that smooth, you can feel it. Handset heats up but battery temp is under control.

Gionee A1 Gaming Review

I played Asphalt 8 in high quality mode, though the game played well, I could feel the lags occasionally. The car control was not that smooth. The game in medium quality mode worked great.

Gionee A1 Camera Review

Rear camera is 13MP AF using SONY IMX 258 sensor with f/2.0 aperture. Front camera is 16MP Fixed Focus with f/2.0 aperture. Overall camera quality is above average, rear camera is average but front camera is very good. This handset can shoot FHD videos.

Camera Rating Rear camera 3.8 out of 5 and Front Camera 4.0 out of 5

Others

The finger print sensor on the front is fast and accurate. I did not find any issues on the handset, reliance JIO SIM worked well and sound was loud and clear.

Gionee A1 Battery Review

There is 4010 mAh non-removable battery. It took me 1 hour 30 minutes to charge the handset to full using fast charger. On a full charge you will get around 5 to 8 hours non-stop moderate to heavy usage. For mixed usage you will get one to one and a half days for battery life. Max battery temperature was 42 degrees.

A1 Battery Performance (time / battery % drop / estimated battery temperature)

Running Benchmark app :  10 minutes / 2% / 36 degrees
Asphalt 8 game play : 21 minutes / 9% / 42 degrees
FHD video playback with full brightness (WiFi /4G on) :  57 minutes / 12% / 37 degrees.

Verdict

The Gionee A1 looks good, performance is good, though not that great when it comes to gaming. Battery life is pretty good and front camera quality is quite impressive. The price however is on the higher side, but this kind of phone / price works on offline markets.

Rating 3.8 out of 5

Gionee A1 is now available for Rs. 17,421.
