Elephone P5000 review and unboxing

There is LED notification and 4 sensors – light, proximity, magnetic and accelerometer. The front physical dedicated navigation button doubles up as finger print scanner. The finger print recognition is pretty good and accurate most of the time. Earlier Elephone smartphone had the finger print scanner on the rear and now they have moved it on the front, just like as seen on Samsung Galaxy Smartphones.

Elephone P5000 sports a 5 inch screen supporting 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. There is a factory fitted screen guard. Colour reproduction is good, touch is smooth / responsive and viewing angles are pretty good.

This handset is running Android 4.4.2 and it will get the Lollipop update.

Gaming
I installed and played the Asphalt 8 (got installed on the internal storage). Game was playable at the highest visual quality mode. The hardware can play many high end games.

Camera
This handset comes with 16MP camera on the rear and an 8MP camera on the front. The camera quality is above average (though on some images you will find a pinkish tint). Check the sample images and videos at the end. Rear camera can shoot full HD videos at 30fps.

Others
There is built in NFC and finger print scanner. You can register up to 3 finger prints. For some reason the SIM network was not working on this handset probably some software / hardware issue. There is 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC and Bluetooth.

There is a reset button in case you want to reboot the system. You will have to open up the back cover to access this button.

Update : the SIM issue get fixed, IMEI was invalid, I added a new valid IMEI and it worked.

Battery
The key highlight about the P5000 is the massive 5350 mAh battery. On a full charge you can expect about 5 to 9 hours of continuous moderate to heavy usage. The temperature always showed 25 degree – the handset did get heated up with heavy usage but was not very hot. With normal usage the battery could go on for up to 4 days on a single charge.

You can also use this handset like a power bank to charge other devices.
