Cool UI 8.0 sails out of the box over Android 5.1 (lollipop). The default UI has golden color fonts that goes well with the golden look.

Memory, Storage and performance

Max is loaded with 4GB RAM, 64GB ROM and you can use micro SD card too. OTG is supported. On first boot you will get around 50GB free space and 2.3GB free RAM.

Inside the hood the Max houses qualcomm snapdragon 617 MSM8952 64 bit octa core processor clocked at 1.5GHz with Adreno 405 GPU. Performance is smooth, lag free and heat up is pretty much under control – max battery temperature I encountered was 38 degrees.

Benchmark

  • Quadrant – 22578
  • Antutu (64 bit) – 43244 | 3D score – 7842
  • Nenamark 2 – 60.4fps
  • Internal storage Speed – Read (204MB/s), Write (135MB/s)
  • Multi Touch – 10 Point

I played MC5 and Asphalt 8. Both these games played really well, no lags, do check the video review to see the gaming action.

Camera

A 13MP camera with Samsung ISO cell is packed on the back with dual tone LED flash and on the front there is a 5MP fixed focus camera. Camera quality is above average. Rear camera can shoot FHD videos. Do check the sample images below.

Others

Speaker Sound is very loud. In call sound quality is also good. I did not face any issues with the network. 4G, WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth worked well. There is finger print sensor on the back – it’s fast and very accurate.

Dual in One tagline is for the dual space feature that gives the user ability to keep professional and personal information separate. This means that the user can create two different accounts for Facebook, Whatsapp, Twiitter etc.

Battery

There is a 2800 mAh battery with fast charging capabilities. It does a decent job you can expect 4 to 5 hours of continuous moderate to heavy usage on a full charge. I got an easy over one day of battery backup with heavy mixed usage and almost one and a half day with moderate mixed usage.

Battery Performance (time / battery % drop / battery temperature)

  • Running Benchmark app – 10 minutes / 3% / 38 degrees
  • Played MC5 + Asphalt 8 – 16 minutes / 7% / 39 degrees
  • FHD video playback with full brightness (WiFi /3G on) – 56 minutes / 20% / 37 degrees

It took me 1 hours 11 minutes to charge the handset using wall charger from 8% to 100%.

Verdict

Coolpad Max is a very good handset, performance is smooth, heat up under control, camera quality above average and battery is also decent enough. The handset also offer users to have two accounts for whatsapp, facebook and other social networks. The only issue is the price I was expecting it o be somewhere under 17K.

Coolpad Max is available for Rs. 24,999.
