BSNL & Penta are now gearing up to launch a low cost tab with built in 3G. The BSNL Penta TPad WS704C is a 1 GHz powered android 4.0 tablet with built in 3G, GPS and Bluetooth. These are the unique features that many users desired for, and this BSNL tab, will fulfill their demands.

Yes we all know that BSNL IS701R tablet has bought in a bad name for the BSNL – Penta group. Only time will tell if these new tabs actually brings in the trust back. Another problem with BSNL is the unorganised approach eg. the pre-book – email to form system, payment at PNB and unreliable support who are clueless about the delivery status and hardware / software issues if any.

Well the TPad WS704C might as well give BSNL Penta a second chance. The WS704C comes with a 1 GHz Cortex 8 Processor with 4 GB internal memory and 512 MB RAM. The internal memory and RAM is less as compared with the BSNL’s TPad IS703C model.

Let’s have a look at the specifications

CPU: As mentioned, 1 GHz powered Cortex A8 processor. GPU not known.

Memory: RAM = 512 MB; Internal memory = 4 GB. This is more than sufficient for many users and there is also microSD slot to add in those extra storage space.

Display: A 7 inch touchscreen with a better responsive screen thanks to the capacitive technology. Resolution supported is (not confirmed) 800 x 480 pixels.

Camera: This tab will come with dual camera, a rear 2 MP and a front VGA (0.3 MP). I think the quality will be just okay, do not expect much from a 2 MP camera.

Connectivity: The good news is this tab comes with built in SIM slot that can houses a 3G or 2G SIM. This also means you no longer are depended on external dongles, just insert the SIM which is 3G/2G enabled and start surfing, in fact you should also be able to use phone functionality, like making & receiving calls, sending & receiving SMS’s etc.  Other connectivity options are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, built in GPS, 3.5 mm jack and USB port.

Battery: lithium-polymer battery mAh Unknown.

Price: Rs.13,199. (Buy now)

The features look promising, something new in this low cost tablet segment. The battery capacity, the CPU / GPU details and the price is what we do not know for now. I expected the price to be under Rs. 10,000 but its well above it. I doubt if consumers will be interested in this tablet because for under Rs. 20,000 you get a Samsung brand with excellent battery life and high screen resolution, and that too within a week.
