Asus Zenfone 3 Laser review Camera, battery performance and verdict

This is 3rd part of Asus Zenfone 3 Laser review. Coming to the camera the Zenfone 3 Laser comes with 13MP pixel master 3.0 camera packed on the back and 8MP camera on the front. Front camera as well as rear camera is with a f/2.0 aperture.

Asus Zenfone 3 Laser Camera feature and quality

There is real time HDR mode that will help you shoot better pictures. Apart from this there are several modes including manual mode that gives 32 sec long exposure option. Primary camera can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps.

Asus Zenfone 3 Laser camera quality is above average. Unfortunately this camera is not as great as seen on the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser. The Zenfone 3 Laser however can shoot really good videos and the shakiness while you are walking / moving is minimal thanks to the 3 axis electronic image stabilization.

Do check the sample images. The sample video I shot got recorded in mp4 format, file size is 185MB and resolution is 1080p @ 30fps.

Others

There is finger print sensor on the back that is fast and accurate. It takes around 0.3 seconds to unlock. No issues found with 4G, WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth. Call quality and speaker sound is loud and clear.

Battery

Zenfone 3 Laser is packed with 3000 mAh non remoavble battery that does a very good job. On a full charge you can expect 4 to 9 hours of non-stop moderate to heavy usage. In general you will get over 1 day of battery life with mixed moderate usage.

Asus Zenfone 3 Laser Battery Performance (time / battery % drop / estimated battery temperature)

  • Running Benchmark app – 9 minutes / 2% / 37 degrees
  • Asphalt 8 + MC5 game play – 21 minutes / 9% / 43 degrees
  • FHD video playback with full brightness (WiFi /4G on) – 11 minutes / 2% / 37 degrees.

It took me 3 hours 26 minutes to charge this handset from 1% to 100% using the wall charger that was included in the box.

Verdict

The Asus Zenfone 3 Laser is powerful and premium looking handset, I expected the camera to be as good as the Zenfone 2 Laser, unfortunately it was not, though videos are much better (with video stabilization). This handset cannot play 4K videos. Zenfone 3 Laser is a bit pricey.
