Asus ROG GL552J review – gaming notebook

Asus Republic Of Gamers (ROG) GL552J is another gaming ROG notebook packed with powerful features and comes with a full HD screen. This notebook is running Windows 10 with 8GB RAM. Asus GL522J is priced at approx ₹75,000.

Asus GL552J Unboxing

The box packing is pretty unique (as seen on other ROG models) – inside you will find the notebook, AC adapter, quick start guide, cable tie and power cord.

Design and Features

The Asus ROG GL552J comes with nice textures on the top lid with Asus logo that lights up when the notebook is switched on. This notebook also comes with red coloured backlit keyboard with circuit type texture around the keyboard (check image below).

The GL552J like other ROG looks awesome when in use and specially in complete dark environments. This notebook sports a 15.6 inch screen with full HD resolution – 1920 x 1080p.

It is running Windows 10 with 8GB RAM and 1TB storage. There are two partitions 372GB C: drive and 558GB D: drive. A Super Multi DVD is also includes with 8x R/W speed. Notebook weight is 2.6Kg. GL522J houses the Intel Core i7 4750HQ CPU clocked at 2GHz and can be turbo boosted up to 3.5GHz. When it come to GPU – it’s using NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M with 4GB VRAM.

Other features are HD web camera (integrated), WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, RJ45 port, 1x audio jack, 1x microphone jack, 3x USB 3.0 ports, 1x VGA port, 1x AC plug and 1x HDMI port. There is built in speaker placed on the front.

The 4 Cells 48Whrs battery will give up to 3.5 hours of normal usage time (definitely not when playing games).

GL552J Performance

The GL552J is powerful and smooth in general. The screen with 1080p resolution looks much better and even the viewing angles are pretty good. I ran the Nova Bench application and got the score of 992.

Since this notebook is specially made for gaming I tried the FarCry 4. The game played very well in full HD resolution. The graphics quality was very good, game was playable, however not really buttery smooth but decent enough in FHD resolution.

Do check the gaming action in the video review listed below.

The notebook battery will last for up to 3 hours with normal usage, but if you are playing high end games it is better to keep the power source connected. Well even without the power source, on a full charge you should be able to get up to 1 hours of battery backup.

Verdict
Here is another Asus ROG notebook model GL552J specially meant for gamers. If you are more into gaming and looking for a portable option, this is a good one, though it does come for a price.

Asus ROG GL552J is available for ₹74,999.
