Spice Mobiles launched the Mi-355, Mi-425 and Mi-500 android handsets

by Gogi Rana on June 6, 2012 · 34 comments

As expected the 3 new android mobiles from Spice has finally been launched. The Spice Mobile website is now showing the Spice Stellar handset which sports a 10 cm (3.9 inch) capacitive touchscreen with 5 MP auto focus camera. The handset comes secured with NQ Mobile Security app and is powered by a 1 GHz processor.

The Spice Stellar runs on Android 2.3 which can be later be upgraded to android 4.0. The Stellar is the Spice Mi-425 which we have been talking about for quite some time; it comes for a price tag of Rs. 9,999.  This handset is already listed on some online sites.

The other phone called the Mi-355 or Spice Stellar Craze will carry a price tag of Rs. 6,499 which also comes with 2.3 upgradeable to 4.0. This handset sports a rear 5 MP camera and a front VGA camera. The screen is 3.5 inch capacitive touch and battery is 1420 mAh. If you are wondering why this handset is so cheap, well it is powered by an 800 Mhz processor. It’s competitor, the Karbonn A7. Other features included are GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth.

ICS powered Spice Stellar smartphone

And now for the handset we were waiting for, the Spice Stellar Horizon or the Mi-500. This one comes with a 5 inch touchscreen (capacitive), 512 MB RAM and with 4 Gigs of internal storage. The handset is powered by Snapdragon processor clocked at 1 GHz. This one too will come with host of common features like 5 MP camera (auto focus), 2.3 OS upgradeable to 4.0, dual SIM support, SRS audio sound, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS etc. This handset comes with 2150 mAh battery and priced at Rs. 11,990.

I am going to get this Mi-500 and will be doing a review on it. What impresses me is the Wide 5 inch screen size (Samsung Galaxy Note is 5.3 inch), for now we do not know the screen resolution but it could be similar or better than Mi-425.

The 425 is currently available and the Mi-500, Mi-355 will hit the store (or online) by June end. Stay tuned for more.

Once again another piece of information, its from one of the forums on xda wherein they have disclosed the details of a similar handset csl mi 500 which is usually the same as spice mi 500, you might want to have a look at it, seems like a mediatak processor instead of qualcomm one, don't you think the processor quality of mediatek processor which is used in these re-branded phones these days is really bad compared to snapdragon or qualcomm?

Thanks again, I have written a post on the same. I think we better wait for the official Specs.

The worst thing(and the truth i guess) we can expect from mi500 is a 262K color and 480×800/850 resolution screen which is boring for these 720p days, but the price justifies it…

Spice please increase the quality of screen!!!

It is going to be hit even if spice increase the price for better quality screen.

Yes considering the price difference between 425 and 500 looks like it could be the same screen resolution that is on 425.

what is exact user free inbuilt memory is it really 140 mb only. If it is right then it useless to buy even mm A50 has 202 mb.
Is karbonn A9 have user free 512mb internal memory?

Reply

gogi June 7, 2012 at 4:38 am

First of all no one is for sure if its 140 MB and the 512 MB RAM is for the system its not for user storage, though some space is reserved for programs. Phones will either come with built in storage like 4G, 8GB etc or you can use microSD card. adding 4GB internal is costly and will increase the cost hence these phones put in microSD.

dinesh June 7, 2012 at 7:17 am

Thanks for reply. I am not asking about internal media storage.I want to know about that free memory which used by user installed app.I am using galaxy 5801 which has 190 mb and after installing some app it goes down and need to remove some program because all app not sdmovable. So can you tell me this free memory in MI 425 and karbonn A9.

Reply

gogi June 7, 2012 at 4:10 pm

Dinesh, I do not have the Mi-425 model and I did get sometime to use the A9, but it was limited access. The free storage also depends on how the OS is customized and the apps that come per-loaded. I am using Karbonn A7 which has 178 MB total usable memory.

Reply

dinesh June 7, 2012 at 6:05 pm

Thanks for answer. I place order for A9 so hope it more than 178mb compared to A7.

I finally received my A9. it's really awesome mobile. 530 mb internal user available memory for 8949. I want to know know to set both sim active in A9.

Hi,

I m interested in Spice Mi-355 as it is in my budget. Would you think it is worth to wait until it arrive ? What are the other competitor mobiles in this price range.. Do you think that this is best in their price range ?

Thanks,

NV

The Mi-355 specs look similar to A7 but we will have to wait for a clear picture. Another interesting thing is if the specs are same and Spice is ready to do a ICS update then probably, the Karbonn A7 can also be upgraded the ICS (we will have to see if Karbonn goes official with that). Well better to wait as I think when available you will get a better price.
