by Gogi Rana on July 15, 2012 · 6 comments

Sony will soon launch two new handsets the Sony Iona and Sony Neo L in India. The Ion is expected to be released in August while the Neo L could hit the markets by end of July or early August.

The Sony Neo L sports a 4 inch LCD capacitive touchscreen with resolution of 854×480 pixels. This handset will sail on a 1 GHz single core processor with 512MB RAM. This seems to be an entry level handset with minimal internal storage of 320MB. With low internal storage you will need a microSD card to get started.

Other key features are a 5MP camera and a front VGA camera. The Neo L will run on the Android ICS (4.0) OS. The device will be PlayStation certified and users will also get 50GB cloud storage subscription valid for 2 years, absolutely free. Sony Neo L price will be around Rs. 20K.

The Sony Ion on the other hand will be a high end phone with a premium price of over Rs. 30K, all set to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S3. The Ion will come powered by the Snapdragon S3 1.5GHz processor with a 4.5 inch capacitive touchscreen display with 720p resolution. The Ion will be available next month. Stay tuned for more.

Gogi Sir,

Does it allow up-gradation to Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) ?

Also, you mentioned that "the device will be PlayStation certified", what does it mean?

How can a user will get 50GB cloud storage subscription for 2 years absolutely free? does it have any app like Dropbox?

Please guide.

Thanks,

Maulik

Maulik, Not sure about JB update and I think dual core handsets may get the JB update, not sure about single core. PlayStation certified means the device can run PlayStation mobile content correctly. The cloud storage is like a hard drive on the net, you will be using an app to access it.

Thanks a lot sir,

I have read somewhere that Android ICS provides the face recognition system to unlock the mobile phone. Do we need to install separately or there are certain settings for the same?

Could you suggest top-10 must have apps for Android? :)

Face unlock is there on all ICS. Even on A90. But I did not like it as most times it fails may be cause of bad light. Also does not work in complete dark environment, but then after few seconds trying it will swtich to slide to unlock or pattern unlock that you also need to set as a backup in case Face detection fails. The concept sounds good but extremely slow process, its much faster to use the pattern or slide to unlock. You can check this http://www.gogi.in/tag/android-apps/

Omkar, It looks like entry level phone (look at the specs) but you see this is a SONY brand the price is not yet final, @20K you may not agree but the specs says it all.
