Micromax A100 superfone shows up on Homeshop18 for Rs. 9999

by Gogi Rana on August 12, 2012 · 27 comments

There is no official word from Micromax regarding the Micromax A100 handset; however Homeshop18 has already listed it on their shopping site for Rs. 9,999. A100 is a dual SIM phone with dual Standby running on Android 4.0.4 (ICS) OS.

The specifications mentioned on the site look similar to Mi-425 except that the capacitive touchscreen display is of 5 inch resolution. It does support dual SIM with 3G (WCDMA / HSDPA) , GPRS and EDGE supported. The battery is 2000mAh with talktime of up to 5 hours and standby time of around 180 hours.

We were expecting a camera of more than 5 megapixels however it just got 5 MP auto focus camera with video recording and that too without any secondary (front facing) camera. The features are similar to the Spice Stellar, just with a bigger screen and a good competitive pricing.

It does seem strange that Homeshop18 has listed this handset even before any official announcement from Micromax. I am not sure if this really is the Micromax A100. The page also clearly mentions that the product is out of stock, which again looks quite suspicious.

Check out the Homeshop18 link and let me know your comments on the same. I have added a screen shot of the product listed on the site – just in case they remove the list, you never know.

Hi Gogi,

I just want to know if "Is Micromax really durable?"

I m really interested to buy A100 but i doubt its durability. I used Micromax X505 before and it was a good value for money phone. Buy after a year it had a touch panel issue and i had to replace touch panel which costed me around Rs.350.

I just want an honest reply from u, is micromax really durable for say i want to use A100 for 2 years or so…

Thanks

Amit, The newest model like the A100 and A90 built quality is really good, hardware too. I think they will last for a longer time. Touch panel you need to be careful I had the Samsung Galaxy i7500 (which I usually would put in the front jeans pocket) which also developed touch issues (part of top area was not responding) after a year so this can happen with any cell.

Bharat the memory you will see will always be less cause the OS uses some of the memory on 4G you get around 2GB some for app storage and some for OS and on 8GB around 5GB.

Hi Gogi,

How different is Mediatech from Qualcom chipsets.

Reply

gogi August 17, 2012 at 5:46 am

There is a tough competition going on between Mediatech and Qualcomm, Mediatech's chips are cheaper and not much difference performance wise.

Hi Gogi. HS18 has removed the page link for A100. I think this might be a fake. Don't know the reason behind this one.

The link is still working but anyway I posted the screenshot as you never know the page might vanish, unless some word from Micromax.

No Dual Camera! That's very bad Because the best use of 5 Inch Screen is For Video Calling!. How Can They Misses That Important Stuff ?

I want to buy mmx a100 should I buy this because it is not like samsung or nokia that we can trust. Will a100 stand with me for long time?

Reply

gogi September 18, 2012 at 2:28 am

Divesh, the quality is really good, if you still have doubt wait until there is enough stock (as currently its out of stock). You can then check the demo at any electronic malls, see it, feel it and then make a decision.

Gogi why don't you do a article on best phone to buy as per the operating system and in accordance to price bracket. Something like android 15k bracket, even 9k phones are included if they give on par performance. Even un-review'd handset might be included, but you can review them later or just include them with disclaimer. This would really help lot out there to buy a value 4 money phone within their budget. It might be a big and ever changing list but I think most user are here just to know what models are on top and then just read review and find a personalized phone. Try including 5k and 10k bracket as in India the driving sales comes from them.
