Lava Iris 454 dual core 4.5 inch qHD with ICS OS launched

Lava Mobiles silently launched the Lava Iris 454 another dual core powered handset with ICS OS with a smaller screen of 4.5 inch supporting qHD resolution and running on ICS OS (plus touchWIZ UI) with 512MB RAM. The specs seem similar to the Lava Iris 501 model.

The Iris 454 price is not yet disclosed but could be Between Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 9000. Those who find the 5 inch phones too big to handle, here is an alternative, the same stuff in a smaller size of 4.5 inches. In fact there are already some small sized phones (under 5 inch screen) like the Lava Xolo A700, Xolo A800 and Celkon A200 to name a few. But this handset the Iris 454 may be cheaper than A700 and A800 models.

The Lava Iris 454 as mentioned is powered by 1GHz Dual core Cortex A9 processor, which I believe is MTK 6577 with PowerVR SGX 531 GPU. The RAM is modest 512MB with 4GB internal storage and micro SD slot that supports SD card of up to 32GB.

The 454 supports dual SIM with 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP, micro USB and 3.5mm jack. The camera resolution and probably the quality will be the same as seen on other MTK6577 hardware. Its 8MP Auto Focus with LED and supports video recording.

The handset is pretty slim with a 9.9mm thickness and weight is about 154 grams. A 1650 mAh battery keeps the handset going for about 280 hours in standby mode and you can expect a talktime of about 5 hours.

If the handset is priced at around 8,500 for under it could be a great buy, well as long as there is no under 5 inch quad core competitor.

The Lava website ) doesn’t mention a GPU for the Lava Iris 454, so can it be safely assumed that the phone doesn’t have a GPU?

Readers ‘Xmd’ and Kamal had mentioned URLs where instructions to upgrade the Lava Iris 501 to JB were available. Reader ‘Xmd’ had also indicated the “Benefits of update”. Would it be possible at individual level to safely upgrade the Lava Iris 454 to JB (Android 4.1/4.2)?

Even I face the same problem with GPS. It just doesn’t connect to satellites. My phone recently went for repair (due to hanging problem) and they had to give me replacement after 25 days as they didn’t have spare parts (display screen). The new phone they provided was also not able to connect with GPS. The new phone was also having trouble with network as well (on both Airtel and Reliance). I have given the device back to them 2 days ago and awaiting on what they say about it. I would expect this to be replaced and won’t agree unless they give me a handset on which GPS works.

      Is your GPS problem resolved?
