The tablet market is getting hotter in India. Now even big brands are coming up with low cost tablets. HCL has now launched the ME U1 and MyEdu tablets that are priced at Rs. 7,999 and Rs. 9,999 respectively.
Check out the features of these low cost tablets, the main highlight is that both these HCL tablets come with the latest Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS. The MyEdu as the name suggest is especially made for students.
HCL ME U1 features
This tablet sports a 7 inch capacitive display with standard resolution of 800 by 480 pixels. The ME U1 comes with 512 MB RAM with internal memory of 4 GB. This tablet does not come with built in 3G which means you cannot use this as a phone, however you can connect external 3G dongle (limited models supported) for 3G connectivity. Android 4.0 runs out of the box and does well with the 1 GHz (single core) processing speed.
Other features are mini USB port, Wi-Fi, a microSD slot for adding more storage space and a full USB port. There is a front facing VGA camera that can be used for video chat / call using Skype. The 3600 mAh battery can keep this tab running for almost 5 hours.
With this device users get Rs. 3000 worth of free goodies from cleartrip.com, hundama.com and more. HCL ME U1 price in India is Rs. 7,999 with 1 year warranty.
HCL MyEdu features
The MyEdu tab is priced slightly higher but is exactly the same configuration as the HCL ME U1. The extra cost is for the educational software’s that come pre-installed. There many pre-loaded educational contents including NCERT book packs. You also get a free memory card.
The HCL MyEdu tablet price in India is Rs. 9,999 to Rs. 11,499.

Gregory, I think the ME UI does not have google play app, you can install it though and via that you can use hangout and whatsapp am not sure if it will work.
Does hcl me g1 supports hd games or any other tab at this range?

All most all tabs come with mali 400 GPU so capable of playing the games you have listed. But do check with HCL if they allow Google Play access.

Hi yes it does have. Three-axis gyro sensor / Accelerometer.

android mostly do not support NTFS file system. they work on FAT 32. If your tab didnt support ext hdd then it might be possible that this is the reason.
If you format your hdd with fat 32 file system then its likely that it will work.

Yes you can 2G plans on a 3G dongle.

There are very limited choice with regards to dongle model just look for the one that will work on the tablet (get it confirmed by the tablet seller). Now these dongle have SIM slot you can put in 2G or 3G SIM does not matter.

Good to hear from you. OK, can u give it a try, you will not be charged with any money.
Go to irctc.co.in, select any train schedule, go to payment option like (sbi debit card).At the payment page, instead of "make payment option" and without entering any card details, "select cancel".
And it will dispay "Please do not press refresh or back button while transaction is being processed”, (as on PC after this it re-returns to irctc page- stating that the ticket is not booked due to transaction not allowed by your bank etc.)————– I the same happens with HCL Me U1 Tab, then it really rocks, it is a must buy

i did it and on the final page instead of card details i clicked on cancel… in around 7-8 seconds it redirected to a page which said ''transaction could not proceed due to cancelled''
i used to book tickets on my pc until now but from now on i can book them on my tab as well…

I am planning to buy the HCL Me U1 Tablet as internet works faster than on PC.
I want know few things-
I use to surf with Opera mini 4 on my java phone. It works perfectly.
I used to book IRCTC ticket on PC, once I tried to book IRCTC e-ticket at "IRCTC.CO.IN" on operamini 4 on my java phone. I selected the schedule, went to payment option, entered card details, clicked on pay. What happened it displayed "Please do not press refresh or back button while transaction is being processed" – and nothing happened later- my ticket was not booked, but as in pc, the page refresh itself and re-returns to IRCTC page with booked ticket details. I dont know what software automatically refreshes the "payment transaction page" and books the ticket.
I want to know if I can completely book a ticket on HCL Me U1 Tab or not on the Main site "IRCTC.CO.IN" (not on the irctc mobile site). Does HCL Me U1 tab has that software.
Secondly, can normal pc keyboard/ mouse will work with HCL Me U1 Tab
heyya, I have been using Me U1 since 4-5 weeks. The inbuilt browser opens all the websites like they open up in your pc, so no worries.
I have attached a pc mouse to it and it works perfectly fine so I guess even a keyboard should work properly.

I got my Me1 a few weeks back and the performance has been pretty satisfying. Everything works just fine.
I got a WiFi router and net surfing on ME1is awesome.
I downloaded a few .apks from various places and the apps run fine.
The problem is, when you download .apk of some HD game and after you install it, it downloads some data for the game to run right?
When I open the HD game, for example Asphalt 6 HD, it tries to download those files but in a few seconds it says no WiFi signal detected. It happens with all the HD games.
The WiFi signal is very well present, I surf the net with its browser, I use google earth for android but the games say no WiFi.
Please help me with this. I haven't been ale to start any games since I bought it…

Manzil, regarding the game is it paid of you are using some crack version? And yes these games after installing they download a lot of data.
It was downloaded from torrents. My friend uses it in his phone and it works fine.
On my Tab, it does open up, but gets stuck with the download.
what to do?
The only nice game i can play is Angry Birds Space HD…

Manzil, of that is a common issue with the files downloaded from torrents, probably the hardware your friends are using are different.
yeah he has galaxy SII, but I tried downloading the .apks myself but I still get the same error.

You see when you buy the game app you need to download the main files, which will take a lot of time and the app will decide which files to download, this is because the GPU may be different on different tablets and there could be a different files complied for a specific GPU. If the source files are complied for a different GPU which does not matches on your tablet, it will not work.
ah okay, I'll wait for compatible games then and one more thing, I downloaded the google play apk and installed but when I try to open it, it opens up and closes in a few seconds and i get a message 'unfortunately google play has stopped' Why does this happen? have I downloaded the wrong .apk or is there some other problem?
Could be some other issue, try downloading another version of google play.

Hi I bought hce me tab, and I am having problem with my wi-fi connection at home broadband could you please guide me how can I setup the connection.
Raj, Go to settings -> Wi-Fi (switch on if its off), wait and see if you see your wi-fi broadband listed, if not, then press the scan. If you cannot see the broadband check the router or your home wi-fi device if its working.
If you see the wi-fi listed then tap and enter the password.

The 620 is some what more powerful than the 3100, but if you are not much into gaming then go for 3100, but then the 620 is Android 3.2 and on 3100 its the android 4.0.

I ordered this tablet as it appeared at the HCL Store. So i want to share some of my experiences with HCL me U1 Tablet.
1. The first thing I want to mention about HCL online store that it is the worst online store of the world. No proper order tracking, customer support won't respond and they will take a delivery time of at least 10 to 15 day if you keep calling them about your order otherwise it may take 1 month or 2.
2. As you know it doesn't have google play. Application found on HCL me are of no use and priced very high. However you can install other application by direct downloading their .apk file searching on google.
3. Go and buy a needle because you need to 'reset' your tablet now and then as is hangs regularly.
4. Graphic is good but touch response sucks. Although it has a capacitive touch screen with two point multi-touch display.
5. Games runs smoothly with its ICS 4.0 and 1GHz processor and 512 MB RAM.
6. Wifi not able to catch week signal.
7. Internet browsing is not that much smooth with USB Data Card. It gets disconnected after 15 or 30 mins.
8. Sound is very low. You have to be in a closed room with zero noise in order to listen to the music in your tablet. Headphone sound is too very low which is provided with it.
9. Battery back up is up to the mark. I am happy with its backup. But if you use Data card on 3G then it will discharge very fast.
10. To read ebook kindle works fine. Adobe pdf reader loads very slow.
11. High quality video runs smoothly.
I will give 4 points out of 10 for this tablet at this price. So there are many option available in the market which is better that HCL me U1 and priced very low. So think before you buy.
Does it support all format of videos? Plz suggest some other low cost tabs?
hey ya, I'll be getting the U1 in a couple of days, so the google play is absent, my friend has a lot of .apk files for various games and apps so can I install them on U1 via my pc and USB cable?
please reply promptly as I'll be purchasing it in 1 or 2 days….!

Hi yes you can install apps manually, from PC, copy to tab and use file manager. Tap the apk file to install.
